The latest communication sent out to our community --
Oct 27, 2014.
Dear Advisers, New Committee Members and Colleagues,
Our second KISME Conference has ended successfully on Oct 25. I am certain that this email will probably find you exhausted, but there are indeed many things that we should celebrate altogether. Please forgive me to start this letter with a long thank-you list.
Daegu International School
Mr Odom, Mr Jolly and other Admin team members have been fully behind us for the past two conferences, this year Mrs Odom was driving for the conference presenters and participants in the morning and evening, DIS has done it twice!
Penny and Dr. Zhang
Dr. Zhang has left for Singapore in a rush, while Penny also woke up in very early morning to catch up her cab, KTX and flight. K.I.S.M.E. is still a very young association, we are growing and improving every year, exactly because of the selfishless contributions from educators like Penny and Dr Zhang.
Our New Committee and previous Partners
Due to our second conference, we now have our new Committee members. While we are happy to see a wider and more powerful network this year, we equally miss our previous partners. I am certain that our paths will cross again at some points in the future. Please bear in mind that you are always welcome to come back and visit us.
The International School of Macao (T.I.S)
This year, the whole Chinese language team from T.I.S. have come and supported us, due to their support, our new network was able to cross different regions. Ms. Helen Ku, the Head of Chinese there, has also agreed to be one of our Advisers. Please stay tuned for even more possibilities of exchanges in near future. 在此,再次衷心感谢顾老师和她团队的支持。
Online survey
As we have mentioned, that Mr Staffa has sent out an online survey before the conference, please generously support us by feeding us back. Thank you!
Presentation PPT.
All the presentation PPTs will be uploaded in our website very shortly, I am sure that Mr Staffa will also upload his inspiring session soon.
Mandarin Matrix
I am aware that some colleagues have been discussing about Mandarin Matrix. This learning program has been consolidated and introduced to many international schools in Hong Kong by our another renowned Adviser, Dr Wang Xiao Ping, years ago. DIS has also been using it for two years. I have known the sales department as well. If you or your colleagues want to experience it, please feel free to quote my name and copy your first email exchange to me. I am happy to help you get a good deal, although there is no guarantee and I have no control over them at all.
Leadership team
Last, but not least, it is essential for us to recognize the extra efforts made by Mr Staffa as a new father, he has been communicating with you to collect and manage the registration fee, out of his insane schedule as the Head of Department. Ms. Samantha Chang has also dedicated her precious time, out of her demanding postgraduate online learning, to physically take care of many paper work and all conference participants.
Moving up to Seoul
I know that Mr Staffa has been working with his colleagues on this, hopefully, there will be more positive news to share from our leadership team in future.
Thank you All, our leadership team will be in touch with you shortly, to follow up and to collect your ideas for the theme of our third conference next year.

Sept 24, 2014.
Dear Colleagues,
I genuinely hope that this email finds you well. After lengthy discussions and debates with the leadership team of KISME and also DIS Administration, the info package of our 2nd Conference, together with the presentation abstracts of our presenters are attached for your kind reference. The updated info are also placed on our KISME website.
Within this email, I will also try to cover the change of date, special thanks, apologies and other house keeping items. If you are coming to be part of it, please kindly bear with me and read it through. If you are not coming this year, please rest assured that we will contact and invite you for our third conference next year, many thanks in advance for your generous support.
Change of date
Based on the communication between KISME leadership team and our conference participants, many colleagues have found it challenging to apply day off from schools and find coverage, if the conference was to be held on Friday. We have therefore decided to change it to Saturday only, it is Oct 25. For the same reason, we have also combined two days programs into one day's.
Special thanks
We would love to thank both Presenters, once again, for their coming and support. The entire conference will be meaningless without their contributions.
We also want to give our special thanks to those who have accepted our invitation. We equally look forward to learning from you.
Heartfelt Apologies
I have done this in person, but allow me to apologize to Dr. Susan Zhang once again. Based on the flight schedule she has booked long ago, she will need to depart from our conference before Saturday noon. Although she is still happy to come nurture us, just like our another presenter Ms. Pan, I still want to officially give out my sincerest apologies for this inconvenience.
On the website, we've stated that the registration fee would have included accommodation and meals, some colleagues have asked recently, we are very regretted to share with everyone that due to an overwhelming number of overseas guests coming over to DIS and to our conference, the rooms have already been fully booked. Please kindly inform me and the other leadership members if you have any concerns, we will do our best to assist you.
Pick-up
DIS will pick you up.
Please kindly discuss with your school and team members, it will be much more convenient for both DIS and your good-selves if you can come together with your colleagues. As almost all of our local participants are taking KTX (express train) to come, it is strongly recommended to arrive at the Dong Daegu Station (not Daegu Station, they are different) by 9:15 a.m. on the day. The registration starts at 9:30 and the conference itself will start sharply at 10.
Please kindly inform me of your KTX schedule and cell phone number at your earliest convenience, thank you very much!
Overseas participants
Please also share your flight schedules with me at your earliest convenience. Many thanks.
At the end of Oct, the weather in Daegu will be cold, please prepare enough clothing and even medication for yourselves,
Your feedback
Mr. Staffa has prepared an online survey for all participants, he will share the link on or before your arrival, we need your feedback to improve, many thanks in advance.
In case there will be any changes, I will certainly keep you posted in a timely manner.
Both DIS and KISME are looking forward to welcoming your visit, it is indeed our honor to host you, we believe that the conference will be an unique learning experience for us all.
Thank you very much!

May 21st, 2014.
Dear Colleagues,
Over the past few weeks, we have been able to finalize confirmation of presenters for our second conference. First, please allow us to give very special thanks to all our advisers. We are, indeed, very blessed to have the support of all these world-class experts. Without them, the meaning and value of our conferences and organization would be entirely different.
This year, we have the good fortune of having Penny Pan return to Korea to work with us. I am sure that we all have been missing her and her expertise. The current school that Penny is working for, Canadian International School of Hong Kong, is a leading IB international school. We are confident that Penny’s sessions will benefit not only our IB colleagues and students, but everyone else as well.
Another renowned educator who has confirmed attendance is Dr. Susan Zhang from Singapore American School. She is currently serving as the Director of Chinese Program there. Similar to Penny and our other advisers, Dr. Zhang has been a key figure in international Chinese education for many years. When we read through her biography, we were amazed by the depth of experience she will bring to us.
With Dr. Zhang and Penny’s guidance, we are certain that both IB and AP streams will be well represented this year. We have also updated our official website (www.kisme.weebly.com). Please feel free to explore the site.
The three of us have also been reaching out to our committee and other schools. There are at least 9 teachers who have confirmed attendance. Please kindly offer us your support by replying to Mr. Staffa’s invitation at your earliest convenience. Chinese teaching and learning within an international school context, is still in its beginning stages here in South Korea, so it is essential for educators to gather at least once a year to collaborate, strengthen our network and make our presence strong in the international community. These wise and proactive steps will exponentially help us improve together as educators, benefiting our students’ language learning experiences.
We look forward to hearing from you. Our next e-communication will take place in August, and a detailed schedule of our conference will also be attached.
Yours in education,
Samantha, Nick and Ocean
